The Magic Rug!
I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Glen Gatin online while working together on a moodle course, and I am so grateful that Dr. Glen facilitated an introduction to SL in this course.In Dr. Glen’s virtual world, I chose for my avatar the name ”spiritweaver”, but visiting his world, I can tell you that he is a wonderful weaver of extraordinary and enjoyable learning environments! When I visited his SL world, I was so happy to explore this 3D world. Dr. Glen guided us in a fantastic tour. Dr. Glen’s world is a unique place, where you have everything to make you learn, and enjoy what you learn with no efforts. It is a place where you flow with the learning process so smoothly, and by the time the session ends, you want to start all over. When you start all over, you are involved in more learning, more knowledge, and more excitement.
In Dr. Glen's class, you discover your inner child no matter how old you are. There, you are in a wonderland and you really want to learn for the sake of learning. He created so many places and activities that are motivational and inspirational. You are the avatar and you choose and create whatever you imagine, and your imagination becomes so real. Dr. Glen transformed the idea of “classroom” into a comfortable, relaxing, and infinite zone for learning through enjoyment.
Dr. Glen’s SL unique class is a perfect place for me, and for all lifelong passionate learners. Using SL technology, Dr. Glen created a world with many places that make you feel “at home”. You are also surrounded by beauty that urges you to focus and learn. Just look at the rug, a beautiful oriental rug that changes its colors and designs when you walk and touch it. Like magic, you interact with the rug and chat! In Dr. Gen’s world, you walk, run, fly, dance, laugh, cry, meditate, communicate, and create. I did these activities in happiness using an audiovisual platform of the 3D virtual world.
Visiting Telmea is a wonderful learning experience that will transform your perspective about education, learning environments, teaching strategies, being a teacher, and being a learner! It is a new world that makes you feel so excited all the time when you explore the conviviality corners, the happy meeting place for critical pedagogy, the SLOODLE meta glass touch, and the briefcase with notes that take you to M4TSimCrawl when you enjoy the music island, ISTE island, virtual speaking, Sea Turtle island, SLOODLE Park, and much more. You will be engaged in a whole world of attraction and adventures! Technology as a medium has raised the learning and teaching expectations in regard to the quality of the work that teachers and students present. Technology allows a great deal of perfectionism that you can see in Dr. Glen’s SL revolutionary class. Indeed, Dr. Glen created a world of beauty!
Who is Dr. Glen Gatin?
Dr. Geln Gatin is currently mentoring Faculty at Northcentral University, visiting Adjunct Faculty at Fielding Graduate University, facilitator at Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning. He was an Interim Director at Campus Manitoba, eLearning and Research, specialist at Assiniboine Community College, and instructor at Assiniboine Community College. He studied at Fielding Graduate University, Central Michigan University, University of Regina, and University of Saskatchewan
According to Dr. Gatin, “the key to being a good teacher is being able to see things with a beginners mind. That is not to hard to do when working with web-based applications because everything is always new! Just when you think you are expert, something new comes along and you are back at the beginning.”
